Chapter 1980: Care and Feeding Rules (21)

16 hours ago · 6 min read

Shang Qi had chased down one street but still lost track.

"Sir, let’s deal with your wound first." The head bodyguard was nervously saying: "You can’t have anything happen to that hand of yours."

That hand is the source of his livelihood!!

"It’s nothing." It was just a scratch with some blood, nothing serious: "Find Yue Ban first."

"Yue Ban usually goes out on his own; he won’t have any issues, sir..."

Shang Qi glanced at the head bodyguard, an indescribably sharp look in his eyes, making the bodyguard swallow the rest of his words.

The head bodyguard signaled with his eyes to the second in command behind him, urging him to look quickly.

Although Mr. Shang might not be as well-known as those stars, even masked and hatted, there’s still a chance he could be recognized.

Shang Qi seemed to realize something, took out his phone, and quickly opened the map.

"This way."

Shang Qi pointed in a direction.

When Shang Qi found Chuzheng, this was the scene he witnessed——

A snow-white little cat was standing on a cardboard box, with several cats crouched beside it, all staring menacingly at a disheveled man on the ground.

If they were humans, it would be a classic bully-in-the-alley scene.

But now the bullies were a gang of cats...

The man surrounded by cats had his clothes pulled into a disarray, his exposed skin covered in scratches, looking absolutely miserable.

Shang Qi: "..."

He suddenly felt like he had opened the wrong door.

Yet Shang Qi remained extremely composed, ignoring the intimidating gazes of the cats, taking two steps towards Chuzheng.

"Yue Ban, it’s just a small wound, nothing to worry about. Don’t hurt him."

Shang Qi’s appearance surprised Chuzheng a bit, but she wasn’t frightened and continued sitting confidently on the box.

"Miao?" Who is this guy?

"Miao miao..." Seems to be the boss’s owner.

"Miao miao miao?" The boss has an owner?

All the cats’ gazes shifted to Shang Qi, filled with wonder, pondering what kind of person could be their boss’s owner?

The boss is very fierce!

A single slap could send a cat flying!

Chuzheng wasn’t pleased, what do they mean by saying Shang Qi is her owner? Clearly, she’s the one "keeping" him!

Chuzheng jumped down from the box, all the meowing cats hushed immediately, looking up at Chuzheng with eyes of worship.

Chuzheng didn’t go over to Shang Qi; instead, she walked to the man who was quite scared.

The man shuddered back in fear...

"Don’t come over!"

These cats have turned into spirits! Monsters! They are monsters!

He was just taking money to do a job, but the employer never told him about this!!

As Chuzheng approached, the man trembled violently, and if he hadn’t been so frightened and weakened, he would’ve knelt and kowtowed to her.

Chuzheng disdainfully used her paw to fish out a handkerchief from the man’s pocket.

The handkerchief wrapped a piece of metal, stained with blood, and the blood had smudged onto the handkerchief.

Shang Qi’s gaze fell on the handkerchief, his expression subtly changing.

Due to his own experiences, Shang Qi had seen quite a few things related to this sort of stuff.

If he hadn’t seen this blood-stained handkerchief, he might not have thought much, but now he had no choice but to contemplate.

The little one chased me out for sure because they sensed something wrong.

"Go keep watch outside." Shang Qi turned his head and told the head bodyguard.

"Sir..."

"Go."

The bodyguard gritted his teeth, reluctantly turning to guard outside, looking back every few steps.

Shang Qi walked towards Chuzheng, the cats looked at Chuzheng and then at Shang Qi, gradually giving way to make a path.

The man’s figure was tall; the person on the ground looked up at him, seeing only the man’s tight jaw and long, droopy eyelashes.

He was like a silent mountain, exuding an invisible pressure that made it hard to breathe.

"Who sent you?" The voice was icy, breaking the silence here.

"W-what... what?" Even though the man was frightened by Chuzheng’s little minions, he still gritted his teeth, pretending he didn’t understand.

Shang Qi kicked the handkerchief on the ground: "Who told you to do this?"

"I..." The man just started to speak when a sharp pain shot through his ankle; a cat was biting his calf fiercely, as if it would eat him up any moment.

The man shivered all over: "It... it was Mr. Shang!"

Shang Qi’s hanging hand tightened: "Shang Yucheng?"

The man nodded: "Yes, yes, it’s him. Let go of me, get away! Get away!"

-

Shang Qi stood there, exuding a freezing air.

Why...

Since he was born, he was branded a jinx, but what’s this all got to do with him? He’s never done anything...

Shang Qi couldn’t understand it when he was young and still couldn’t understand it now.

Just because Shang Shanyu got injured, they want to get rid of him completely?

Chuzheng used her little paw to paw at Shang Qi’s pants, bringing him back to his senses. He looked down at the little one holding onto his leg, feeling a sudden softness in his heart.

Chuzheng signaled for Shang Qi to look at his phone.

"Why are you doing this?"

——Do as I say.

Hesitatingly, Shang Qi put his phone back into his pocket and woke the man who had fainted from fear.

He pulled out a handkerchief from somewhere: "Get your blood on it."

"...Wh...what?" The man trembled severely: "I was just doing a job for money, I don’t know anything!!"

Shang Qi felt that it was better to do it himself than to talk with him.

He directly picked up the scrap metal from the ground, pricking the man’s finger and smearing the blood on the handkerchief.

"When you go back, just say it is my blood." Shang Qi placed the handkerchief, now sufficiently stained with blood, into the man’s hand: "Do you understand?"

The man’s only wish was to leave safely, nodding repeatedly: "Got it, got it, I understand!"

"Can... can I go now?"

Shang Qi stood up, stepped aside.

The man immediately crawled up on his hands and knees, shivering as he left under the creepy stares of all the cats.

Before walking two meters, Chuzheng blocked his way with a black bag.

The man plopped down on his knees, sobbing and sniveling: "I’ll certainly do it well, please let me go, I have old folks and young kids to look after..."

Chuzheng: "..."

Chuzheng opened the bag.

The man’s wailing halted, his eyes reflecting a heap of red bills... Money... So much money!!

Chuzheng didn’t shy away from the man; she typed a message on her phone and showed it to him.

——Complete the job well, and all this money is yours. If you dare speak out, suffer the consequences.

The man gulped, terrified of Chuzheng’s peculiar nature yet unable to resist greed: "M-my? All mine?"

Chuzheng nodded her little head.

"I just need to take this handkerchief back?"

Chuzheng continued to nod.

The man hesitated for a moment, finally succumbing to the allure of money: "Okay... okay, I get it, I’ll do it well!"

Of course, Chuzheng wouldn’t just let the man go; she had a few kittens follow him and took a photo of his ID.

Chuzheng threatened him, saying if he dared do anything, she’d find out about his family, not sparing anybody.

A single weird cat was frightening enough, but with Chuzheng’s threat, the man wouldn’t dare entertain any other intentions.
