Chapter 42: Wanted: Second Wife
1 week ago · 8 min read
For some reason, Aesel and I never had sex yet but she’d been successfully taking care of my urges. Although I wanna fuck her so bad, I’d rather let her tell me first.
That thing I did back in Thelassi with a mermaid called Solephia made me feel bad. I wouldn’t wanna do it again. Especially not with a person I cared about.
It was late at night. Aesel and I laid on the same bed in the inn. But I’d been turning around for hours searching for the best position to fall asleep.
Ever since I became Farisle’s mayor, I’d been having insomnia. Not because of the dreams… but maybe it did happen after I received those dreams.
I still questioned what that six-pointed star was.
The blanket shuffled beside me.
“Can’t sleep again?” she said.
I turned around and witnessed the face of the most beautiful girl I’d ever met. I was a lucky man to have Aesel as my wife.
“Yeah…”
She sat up. “I’ll concoct something for that.”
I grabbed her arm just as she was about to leave the bed. “Don’t worry about it. I’ll fall asleep soon.”
We just laid on the bed gazing into each other’s eyes.
I’d known Aesel for only a few months and we’d gotten close to each other. Even then, I still hid a lot of secrets from her. Not that I couldn’t trust her, though.
I had no clue why I couldn’t just blurt it out. Maybe if Aesel trusted me first, then I could tell her.
I’d love to spill every truth to someone that truly cared. I hoped it would be Aesel.
“You seem to have something in your mind,” she said.
Even after all the months I’d known her, Aesel still oozed an air of mystery. I wanted to unravel that.
“How did you learn alchemy?”
“Like I’ve already said, from a former member of the Knights of Monrea.”
“I mean how. Like, did you pay him or something?”
She giggled. “It’s ‘her,’ dear. And no, I didn’t pay her…”
That person, an old woman, was called Jonan. Apparently, she met her in one of her travels in a region called Belthrone to the west.
Jonan’s wish was to pass her knowledge to a relative, but she had no clue where they’d gone. So she taught Aesel everything after getting close to each other.
I didn’t really care much about the story. I just wanted her to open up.
“You’re still a mystery to me, you know?” I said.
Aesel sighed slowly and subtly. She looked away.
“I’m not hiding something – at least not in a way you think. It’s just…”
I caressed her arm. “I want to trust you more.”
She met my gaze. It took her a minute before she spoke.
“I ran away from Sonneral. From my relatives, from my friends… from everyone.”
I pulled her closer and let her talk.
“I hated my obligations. It was by leaving the mountains that I realized how primitive my life had been. Much less so than Korimd.”
I waited for her to elaborate, but she didn’t speak further. I just gave her a hug. Not like I could force her to tell me.
This was a start.
“Did you learn how to make golems as a child?”
“No. A child’s croius is too weak to handle it.”
It required until the age of twenty-one for them to learn the Art of Living Earth. But even then, they’d spend a whole decade mastering it. Everyone had the opportunity, but only a few succeeded, and Aesel was one of the best.
I’d love to have that skill. If I could manipulate golems, then I wouldn’t have to personally fight. Sure I had tentacles, but people might perceive me as a monster if I used those. So tentacle-ing my way out of trouble would be a last resort.
I kissed Aesel’s forehead.
“That feels comfortable.”
Then her nose. She giggled. Then her lips, which turned into a cold, passionate kiss. I went down to suck her bare hard nipples before sliding a finger down to her pussy.
She grabbed my hand.
“Not yet, dear.”
“That’s what I wanna ask. I’m not trying to force you or something, I just wanna know why we haven’t done it yet.”
She sat up. She lifted me up, too.
“I don’t want to get pregnant yet.”
Right. She wasn’t one of those cultists with a six-petaled tattoo. Those witches had magical contraception.
“I feel like I don’t deserve to be a mother yet.”
I hugged her. Not like I wanna be a father anyway – at least not yet, too.
“So that’s why. I wish you could’ve told me sooner.”
She opened her mouth, but I covered it.
“’You should’ve asked first,’ is what you’re gonna say, right? I know, I know.”
She laughed, slapping my hand off.
“I wish you would’ve appeared sooner,” she said in a gentle voice.
“Would things be the same if I did?”
She gently pushed me down, crawling on top of me. Then, her face met mine.
“I like to think it would.”
Who knew intimate nights could still feel amazing without vaginal penetration? Aesel and I kissed for hours. She sucked me off, and I licked her dry. I touched and grabbed every inch of her body, and she did the same to me, until we were moaning passionately in that dim room.
I wouldn’t mind nights like this. But still, getting rough with my dick inside her pussy would be great. And her dominating over my pleasures would be fun.
But this was a fantasy world. Surely a contraceptive plants existed somewhere?
Ever since we started sleeping together, Aesel would go missing early in the morning. Apparently it was her duty to keep praying to her god. She would be gone for a few hours until early noon.
I visited the smiths’ lodging, and the polishing was nearing its completion. Almost all of the unskilled workers Rulof hired had been helping with the more complicated stuff like measuring, sawing, and hammering.
Brunin was still a grumpy old man, though. That you could never change. But he was effective at leading the job. And I was hoping for him to keep doing it for every construction in this town.
While they were at it, I began planning the layout for this town. The huts were unappealing. The people would love me more if I gave them proper houses, too.
The plan was to build houses on the ground. So that meant destroying the wooden platforms that served as their path. If this town expanded, they’d have to keep extending the platforms, which would exhaust our lumber reserves.
Which is why I built the smith’s lodging without stilts or platforms.
After the smith’s lodging was complete, I gifted Brunin and his buddies a barrel of rum. They were overjoyed, but their jobs were far from over.
I showed Brunin my town layout and a simple house design I wanted him to build.
“It’s a nice-looking house, but that foundation there… I ain’t a mason, mayor.”
“Don’t worry about the foundation.”
“How so? It’s the most important part of a building.”
I showed him. I used earthmold to gather dirt on the surface and packed them into a tight square. It wasn’t perfect, though, but they could just scrape it off.
The rum spilled from Brunin’s mouth.
“You really are a magician…”
“Yeah I know.”
The plan was to build around a hundred houses. We’d have to keep adding more and more workers, too, to decrease the construction time. After that, we could finally demolish the platforms and old houses and salvage the wood.
By building the new houses further inland, I’d be leaving a huge space next to the pier for a commercial plaza and further port expansions.
Brunin’s workers felt excited about the job. I expected them to protest so I was prepared to increase their pay, but that was unnecessary.
“We’re finally getting proper work in this town,” Brunin said, “you really do wanna turn this place around, dont’cha, mayor?”
“You bet. I wouldn’t wanna spend the rest of my life in an ugly town.”
Brunin sighed, “But I’m old, mayor. I’d love to see this town grow. I wanna do everythin’ else other than boats and chairs.”
“Hey, you better not die early. Your work won’t stop with just one island.”
He was surprised, but he smiled.
“You might just be the best mayor Farisle ever had.”
Throughout my walks and inspections, Sae was mostly around. But after what happened in the past week, about me asking her to be my wife, things went awkward between us again.
I’d already thought of asking Agaphonet for Sae to become my wife. But I still had to muster the courage to tell Sae that. Not like I knew how to go to Thelassi, anyway.
We were having our lunch in the inn. Sae was gorgeous as ever. If she was on Earth anyone would mistake her as a Russian supermodel, but with a mermaid’s tail.
Sae caught my glance and she averted her eyes right away. I just wished she stopped sprinkling sugar in everything, though.
Aesel elbowed me.
“How are things between you?”
“Sour, I guess.”
Aesel hummed. “Do you want her to be your wife?”
“You’re really asking that?”
“Why not?”
We’d already have a conversation about this. But still, I wanna make sure she wouldn’t mind.
“Are you sure you want me to have more wives?”
“You better, cause I will not be giving you an heir anytime soon.”
Not like I wanted a child right away, anyway.
“Won’t you get jealous?”
“No. Why would I?”
I sighed. Well, it was great that Aesel didn’t mind. But still, I’d have to wait for a bit before asking to see Agaphonet.
“I’ll handle her.”
“What?”
“I said I’ll handle her.”
“I heard. I mean, what do you mean by handling her?”
“I’ll handle it.”
“Come on, Aesel, stop playing around.”
She giggled.
If Sae wasn’t a mermaid, then I wouldn’t mind. But if Aesel found out, she might ask questions that could unravel the truth about me. That was what I was worried about.
“Don’t worry about secrets,” she added as if she just read my mind. “The goal is for Sae to be your wife and that’s what I’m going to achieve.”
