Chapter 1781 - 1318: I Won’t Let You Die
6 hours ago · 8 min read
The Black Demon felt thoroughly satisfied after speaking those words. Although it’s a pity she couldn’t personally torture Ash’s soul body, if she could make him suffer and die in agony, it would slightly vent her hatred.
Yet, even so, Ash remained unresponsive. The Black Demon couldn’t help but shake him, sneering coldly, "Do you think I won’t do it?"
"Not exactly..." Ash hesitated for a moment, then said, "But don’t you hate the Observer more than Lissdia? When the Observer is resurrected, with your state of mind, do you still have the energy to focus on Lissdia?"
"Of course, I do! As much as I hate the Observer, I hate Lissdia! The pain she brought me is no less than that of the Observer!"
"You’re being a bit unreasonable. Lissdia hasn’t even met you yet..."
"What’s the point in reasoning?" The Black Demon’s tone was cold, "She hasn’t seen me, but I’ve been watching her, seeing her cared for by you, watching her become the Empress, watching her find happiness... I anticipate every day that your evil nature will awaken and destroy her life, subvert her world, and turn her into a most desperate broken doll! But you haven’t, you just haven’t, how can you not? You’re the Final Observer!"
"In this world, anyone can find happiness, except her! What makes her different from me, why can she live so well, while I can only be like a maggot in the underground, even a ray of sunlight burns me?"
"I want her to feel the pain I’ve endured, I want her to become like me." The Black Demon’s voice was hoarse, her pupils filled with bloodshot lines, twisted like wood grain, "She must live as miserably as I do, so that my life isn’t so pathetic..."
"I understand." Ash said, "You are incredibly lonely, Black Demon."
"What?"
"No one can understand you, not even Death Mad, Sonia, the Observer, nor I. The only person who can understand you is yourself." Ash said softly, "Only the Witch is the partner you can rely on. Because you both are princesses trapped in the tower, both created sisters to escape pain... Black Demon, you simply wish for the Witch to escape with you, don’t you?"
"Don’t act as if you understand me!" The Black Demon reacted violently, "You’re just Ash, not the Observer!"
"Now you know I’m not the Observer?" Ash chuckled, "Speaking of which, there’s something I’ve always wanted to do, and now I finally have the opportunity..."
What?
The Black Demon noticed him slowly raising his hand, gently reaching toward her head. Does he want to assassinate me? Control me? Or has he broken down and wants to hit me? But with his Life Force, just lifting his hand is exhausting, he can’t even scratch an itch for himself—
Click.
Ash placed his palm on the Black Demon’s head, saying gently, "Black Demon, you’ve suffered."
The Black Demon felt the warmth on her head, her lips trembled slightly, she laughed in extreme anger, "Do you think this could work on me? Even if you please me, I will still view torturing Lissdia as my current life’s goal."
"I’m not pleasing you," Ash smiled, "The reason I’m comforting you is the same as your reason for hating the Witch."
"What do you mean?" The Black Demon felt mocked, "How could the reasons be the same? I’m angry because Lissdia has happiness!"
"They’re the same." Ash said softly, "I’m sad because of the despair you’ve experienced."
"Although I dislike empathy, when I summoned you and saw you alone, immersed in the dark deep sea of consciousness, how could I treat you as a stranger?" Ash gently ruffled the Black Demon’s hair, "Although my Life span is just a fraction of yours, to me, you and the Witch are both daughters I wish to protect."
"When I saw you so sad, I wanted to hold you in my arms to comfort you, but you didn’t give me a chance." He chuckled bitterly, "I’m sorry, even though I know everything, I still couldn’t do anything, couldn’t help you... couldn’t even give you a hug."
"You, you!" The Black Demon’s pupils constricted, her voice trembled, "You really are as vile and despicable as the Observer, but I won’t fall for it again... Do you really think I won’t kill Lissdia!?"
"I believe you, but I believe the Witch even more." Ash replied, "The Witch is a good child; she is definitely capable of healing the wounds in your heart because... you are sisters who can understand each other. If she weren’t here, you’d truly be alone."
At this moment, the Black Demon reached the edge of the fourth level of Hell, but there was no gap leading to the fifth level above, after all, the World Snake was consumed without ever invading the fifth level, which remains intact.
The Black Demon looked up at the rock layer above, suddenly punched it, the explosive force creating a small hole in the rock, but as a consequence, her figure faded almost to the point of disappearing.
She tossed Ash to Death Mad, hurriedly left a final harsh word, "When I revive, I will kill everyone you care about! Kill them all! Kill them, kill them, kill them!"
Death Mad cradled Ash in a princess hold. She glanced at the hole the Witch had made, planted her feet into the rock wall, and began walking vertically up the cliff.
"She said it like that." Death Mad spoke as if making small talk, "Aren’t you afraid?"
"Of course not. After all, you’ll protect them." Ash said, "Simply letting Sonia resent you already infuriates you, and what if Sonia’s friends die, and she can’t protect them, what will she think? How could you bear to see Sonia upset?"
After a moment, Death Mad softly replied, "I won’t let Sonia be sad."
"You all are truly despicable, blending the resurrection plan into this sudden incident. Not only can’t I resist, I don’t even have the option to disagree." Ash sighed helplessly. "I was actually looking forward to a big showdown with you, Death Mad... Just now, when I almost passed out, I thought you guys were behind it, and I wished you would just kill me quickly. After all, I’m very afraid of pain. If it were you, Death Mad, you’d definitely let me leave without any suffering."
"I won’t."
"You won’t even give me that benefit? I thought we were friends." Ash sighed deeply and then asked, "Earlier, the Lord of Mirrors said you would let me see Sonia and the others one last time?"
"Yes."
"So, does that mean their memories will be restored? Otherwise, if I go to them and say ’I’m your lover’ while they’re amnesiac, they’ll definitely think I’m some kind of pervert."
"They will."
"I see..." Ash thought for a moment, "Could you not let me see them, and not restore their memories either?"
Death Mad finally spoke, "Before the final battle, didn’t you want your deeds to be made public, so they could all applaud you, perhaps even be infatuated with you for seven hundred years?"
"That was based on the premise that I could return alive, or die a clean death," Ash said. "But seeing them now and restoring their memories would mean making them your eternal enemies... I don’t want them to do anything irrational before they’re strong enough, destroying the life I’ve paid for them."
"Although they’ve all forgotten me, which is quite pitiful for me, but first, I’m close to dying, and second... I’ve had a bit of a conscience. As long as they can’t recall me, no matter how many clues they find in their memories, they can ultimately let go of this unseen emotion and continue to forge their future."
Ash smiled at Death Mad, "So you have to quickly agree, or I’ll regret it again and choose to haunt them for a lifetime, letting them miss me forever."
"I won’t agree," Death Mad calmly replied.
"You’re really wicked-hearted..." Ash sighed lightly. "Then can you at least leave them some kind of tool or something? They can soon raise Heavenly Kingdom, the other four Divine Lords are not their match, only Dazzling Star can’t be rivaled, but you can’t let them deal with Dazzling Star either, after all, our team only stays stable due to the crisis sense. Only by letting them always be under Dazzling Star’s threat can they give up their contradictions and continue moving forward."
"So, a tool that can break through desperate situations would be just right for them, neither hindering cultivation nor exposing them to fatal risks, and it can give them a great sense of security."
"I don’t want to," Death Mad rejected again.
"Then will you help Sonia—"
"I won’t."
"Are you actually my friend?" Ash talked too much, his face flushing and his breath becoming shallow and quick. "Besides, you’re not helping me, you’re helping Sonia. Don’t you care about her anymore now that you can be resurrected? Is your love for her just to this extent?"
"I should ask you, is your love just to this extent? Aren’t these things what you should be doing?" Death Mad said stubbornly, "I won’t pay for your love."
"I want to do it too, but am I not about to die? I’m not even allowed to live, just returning to reality could cause a world-ending disaster. The only thing I can do is let you all divide me... Are they lying to me? Am I actually not the guiding beacon for the fading catastrophe?"
"No, you are indeed the beacon for the catastrophe. Theoretically, only by shattering the soul can the beacon be refined." Death Mad said, "But aren’t you someone who believes in miracles? Have you finally resigned to Fate, no longer insisting on waiting for a miracle until the last moment?"
"Then what exactly do you want from me!?"
Ash suddenly erupted emotionally, hysterically asking back, then weakened again, taking several seconds to collect his thoughts. "I’m already... out of ideas. My life signs are in your hands, my existence is the catastrophe’s beacon, we’re still trapped in Level Six of Hell, below is the Chaos that can fade everything... I barely managed to stop thinking, stop regretting, and try to accept this Fate... Now my mind can’t even function, my whole body feels as light as a balloon... What do you want from me, haven’t I done enough?"
He pressed his lips tightly, mist rising in his eyes, his voice thin and soft almost to a whisper. "Haven’t I already... tried hard enough..."
"I don’t want to make Sonia sad," Death Mad said calmly.
"I said, then just help me—"
"So, I won’t let you die."
Death Mad lowered his head, looking at the weak and feverish Ash in his arms, repeating once more:
"I won’t let you die."
