Chapter 1984 - 1977: I Want to Save a World

2 days ago · 5 min read

Gu Xiao spent a long time accepting the fact that he was the overlord of this continent, having originally been just the impoverished young master of a small kingdom. Suddenly, even the Sect Masters and Hall Masters of those superpowers had to show him great respect, a change in status that caught him completely off guard.

One must know, although Gu Xiao originally had no cultivation gift, his cultural level was extremely high; he was well-read and knew just how enormous those super sects were.

It could even be said that an apprentice disciple of a superpower could walk unhindered in the Yanlan Empire. If they wanted to marry a princess of the Yanlan Empire, the King would have to send her off personally in a grand wedding procession, that was the kind of concept.

And now, all the masters of the superpowers who saw him had to respectfully call him Little Brother Gu Xiao. Not only that, there were tens of thousands of Dao Realm martial artists ready to heed his commands at any moment. At his word, a large group of Dao Realm martial artists would act as his enforcers.

"Thank you, Menglong Brother, for saving my life!" However, compared to this, Gu Xiao seemed even more focused on this point.

"Hahaha, I’m really quite embarrassed about this," Zhang Menglong said a bit awkwardly. "If I hadn’t suddenly descended from the sky, you wouldn’t have encountered this undeserved catastrophe. Actually, I should be the one apologizing to you, and consider everything else as my apology!"

Gu Xiao also smiled wryly. This apology was rather extravagant. To be honest, he hadn’t even felt any pain before passing out, and when he woke up, he was invincible. This was a windfall without any loss!

"Someone’s coming!" Although Gu Xiao still didn’t know how to flexibly use his powers, his perception was like a passive skill, instantly detecting the slightest movements in the surrounding area. Several massive powers were approaching in this direction, and they were all very familiar.

In an instant, the aura of those powers reached them.

"Oh, it’s the masters of those superpowers!" Zhang Menglong said. "I just came out from you, these people don’t know me. Just say I’m a friend of yours!"

"Oh... alright..."

"Congratulations on finally breaking through to the Dao Realm, Little Brother Gu Xiao!" The first to arrive was Lieyang, the master of the War God Palace. Ever since that battle, he had paid close attention to Zhang Menglong, even deploying War God Palace members to protect him from potential interruptions during his breakthrough.

"We sensed a powerful aura, and it must have been Little Brother Gu Xiao’s successful breakthrough. We came especially to congratulate you!"

"Gu Xiao Brother could easily defeat the peak of the Dao Realm while at the pinnacle of Divine Cultivation. Now, his true strength is probably nearing the limit of the Dao Realm, right?"

...

A few people flattered him while also probing the power within Gu Xiao. Truly, compared to before, Gu Xiao’s strength had become even more unfathomable. Even without relying on the armor left by his great-grandfather, there were no opponents on the entire continent.

"You are too kind," Gu Xiao replied with great politeness. "Your congratulations have made me feel flattered."

The few of them paused, looked at each other.

Something’s off! Is today’s Gu Xiao somewhat unusual?

Typically, Gu Xiao wasn’t uncouth, but he certainly wasn’t this refined. Usually, he spoke in ways others couldn’t understand, and if upset, would curse. How did he suddenly acquire such eloquence?

The current Gu Xiao appeared just like a proper scholar, not at all like a martial artist. Did he cultivate so well during his one-year seclusion that he improved his temperament too?

"Who is this...?"

It was at this moment that others noticed Zhang Menglong standing beside Gu Xiao.

They were certain they hadn’t seen this young man before. His aura felt unfamiliar, yet strangely familiar as if they had met long ago, a purely instinctive feeling.

"Oh, actually, I am Gu Xiao’s distant cousin, here for a family visit," Zhang Menglong introduced himself quickly, fearing Gu Xiao might slip up.

"I see," Lieyang muttered to himself, "I wonder if I have seen you somewhere before, little brother?"

"Probably not," Zhang Menglong replied, "I only just arrived here."

"Distant cousin?" The others contemplated briefly. Gu Xiao showed no reaction, indicating he acknowledged this identity. Gu Xiao’s backstory remained a mystery, and now there was a distant cousin; could this cousin be a simple figure? Perhaps his strength didn’t fall short of Gu Xiao’s!

"Are you friends of my cousin?" Zhang Menglong inquired theatrically.

"Friends, we wouldn’t dare say," they quickly denied. "We have encountered Little Brother Gu Xiao a few times and due to his grace, we have had some interactions that scarcely qualify."

"It’s like this," Zhang Menglong began, "I just came to this place; my family tasked me with finding a location. Have you heard of it?"

Zhang Menglong had previously asked the Sunset Sect’s Sect Master this question, but the latter claimed not to know. Perhaps he might uncover some answers from others.

"A grand gateway? Leading to the other two worlds?"

"I do know that occasionally on this continent, creatures appear from the other two worlds; one refers to itself as the Human Race, the other as the Demon Clan, and they also refer to us as the God Race. But if there’s any passage over, we haven’t heard of it."

"Right, when they come, it’s usually random, appearing somewhere. If there were a gate, we should know about it."

...

From them, Zhang Menglong obtained nearly the same information as from the Sunset Sect Master, seemingly confirming their lack of knowledge.

"I might know of such a place!" Just when Zhang Menglong was about to give up, Li Yang spoke up!

Zhang Menglong’s eyes lit up. Li Yang was from an earlier era of martial artists, and perhaps he had knowledge unknown to others.

"I once entered a very peculiar place that indeed had three strange doors, but I’m not sure if that’s the place you’re looking for."

"Truly?" Zhang Menglong rejoiced, finally finding some clues.

"Yes," Li Yang nodded, considering Gu Xiao’s favor, he wouldn’t boast carelessly. "At that time, I already had the strength of the Dao Realm, but in that place, I felt a chill. Two of the doors had some carvings, like incomprehensible text, while the other door was very special. I wanted to try pushing it, but the moment my hand touched it, I felt death."

"Sounds pretty mysterious," Zhang Menglong, unsure which door connected to the Demon Clan or Human Race world, resolved, "Hall Master Li Yang, could you take me to that place?"

"Naturally, although much time has passed, I remember it clearly," Li Yang said, "But may I know why you are seeking those two doors?"

Zhang Menglong, imbued with profound compassion, replied, "I... am going to save a world!"
