Chapter 1982 - 1975: Do You Admit Defeat?
2 days ago · 5 min read
"What’s happening?" Almost the moment the child made a sound, Ji Xuan felt the power in his body ebbing away, absorbed back into the armor. He could hardly feel any connection between himself and this set of armor.
He had some idea of the armor’s origin; its owner was a being who transcended this world, having visited it a century ago and explored the Ancient Cave Heaven. During this adventure, the armor was lost by accident, and unable to find its owner, it was left behind in the Ancient Cave Heaven.
Initially, the artifact spirit of the armor was unwilling to accept Ji Xuan as its new master. However, Ji Xuan’s persistence wore it down, and he skillfully appealed to the spirit’s psychology, saying he was willing to help it find its master, and in the meantime, he might need the armor’s power for tasks related to that search.
If the armor found its master, Ji Xuan promised to return it immediately, without coveting its power.
The power of this armor was so formidable that Ji Xuan couldn’t forcibly erase its intelligence to make it entirely his servant and tool. He could only establish some agreement with the armor. They coexisted as equal partners, neither could enslave the other.
In truth, Ji Xuan harbored significant wishful thinking; the armor’s master was undoubtedly a being beyond the Dao Realm, perhaps now roaming some mysterious place, existence uncertain, and finding them was an unknown variable.
Even if found, it wouldn’t happen overnight; its master had been gone for hundreds of years, how could it be rediscovered in a day or two? That’s nonsense. At least during this time, he could rely on the armor’s strength to clean up the current mess. Even if he truly found the master, his dominance over the continent through the Divine Profound Hall would already be an undeniable fact.
But he didn’t know why, after wearing the armor for merely a few minutes, such an unforeseen event occurred?
Suddenly, the armor disassembled from Ji Xuan’s body automatically. He wanted to grasp the spear, but failed, as a surge of power erupted from the spear, breaking free from his palm, and the direction the armor headed towards was precisely Zhang Menglong’s location.
The attack dissipated gradually, as if it had never appeared, leaving only Zhang Menglong and Ji Xuan at the battlefield’s center, along with the armor caught between them.
A child emerged from the armor, its body suffused with red energy, an energy so fierce and powerful that it was irresistible.
The child flew to Zhang Menglong’s front, circling around him.
"Yeh? There’s the scent of the master on you, the bloodline’s scent is identical to the master’s—are you his descendant?" The child spoke in a tender voice.
"That’s right," Zhang Menglong chuckled, "What’s your master’s name?"
"My master’s name is Zhang Xuejian," the child replied.
"Oh, that’s my great-grandfather," Zhang Menglong nodded, "You can feel that my blood flows the same as your master’s, right?"
"Uh-huh!" The child nodded, "Since you are the master’s descendant, take me to find the master!"
"Hmm, that might be a bit inconvenient," Zhang Menglong said awkwardly, "As you see, I’m in the middle of a fight!"
"No rush, no rush!" the child hastily said, "Following the little master is just like following the master. By staying with you, I’ll meet the master eventually."
"As for the fight, let me help the little master resolve it!"
In that instant, Zhang Menglong felt he established a wondrous connection with the armor, akin to it being his flesh and blood, intimately interwoven.
The power at the extreme of the Dao Realm seemed to belong entirely to him.
"Armor, on!" With a mere thought, the armor encased Zhang Menglong, as if tailored for him, fitting perfectly in every aspect.
Moreover, Zhang Menglong even felt his blood resonating with the armor in a miraculous harmony, a power wholly different from what Ji Xuan had wielded moments ago.
"This..." The scene left Ji Xuan at a loss.
Just earlier he held the absolute advantage, and in a flash, the armor directly switched allegiance.
"What’s going on? We had an agreement—I’d assist you in finding your master, you’d lend me your power. Our deal wasn’t complete yet!" Ji Xuan’s voice carried a tinge of terror, sparked by a dreadful suspicion.
"Come back! Hurry back!"
"Why are you barking like a dog, stop it!" Zhang Menglong said, "Can’t you see? Clearly, it’s found its master, thus ending your agreement."
"Impossible!" Ji Xuan stubbornly refused to believe it. They hadn’t even stepped out of the Divine Profound Hall’s gates, and the armor found its master? How could such a thing happen?
"Truthfully, it was quite coincidental," Zhang Menglong remarked, "I’m not the armor’s master, but my great-grandfather is. In other words, this armor was inherited in my family, so calling me its master isn’t too far-fetched, right?"
"Passed down by your great-grandfather?"
Zhang Menglong startled everyone with his words.
"Wow, is this incredible armor really from Gu Xiao’s great-grandfather?"
"This armor can bestow someone with the power at the Dao Realm extreme; hasn’t Gu Xiao’s great-grandfather already surpassed the Dao Realm?"
"Is that strange? Remember, just now Gu Xiao had someone slay the entity called the Ancestral Buddha, which is likely beyond the Dao Realm, right?"
"What exactly is Gu Xiao’s background, what secrets are still hidden from us?"
"What’s the point in fighting? Once the armor is donned, none can rival, not a single contender is left in the Divine Profound Hall."
"Gu Xiao, letting you leave alive then was my mistake!" At this point, Ji Xuan was left with only regret, his greatest reliance, his trump card, had already become someone else’s.
"Who granted you the right to stand and speak to me?" Zhang Menglong advanced, large forces transformed into an imposing pressure towards Ji Xuan.
Ji Xuan tried to resist this power, but even with the will to do so, his body wouldn’t allow it. His legs slammed hard on the ground, his whole body bowing as if in worship.
The energy in him could barely sustain breathing, leaving no strength for speech.
Zhang Menglong approached him, even turning his head was beyond Ji Xuan’s capability. He could only feel a shadow over his head, a foot pressing upon it.
"Ji Xuan, do you submit?"
