Chapter 41 41: Triple Date (Part 2)

1 month ago · 6 min read

Shido knew there was a small black magic shop around the corner of Tengu Station. After all, he was a regular customer there back in middle school. Leading Kurumi there was a walk in the park. However...

[I don't want to go! I really don't want to go!]

Walking into the familiar shop, his dark history swept over him like a tidal wave, making him feel so ashamed he wanted to roll around on the floor.

"Ahhh, this is wonderful, simply wonderful! As expected of Shido-san, to know such an amazing place."

Kurumi, standing beside him, clasped her hands over her chest, striking a prayer-like pose with stars in her eyes.

[Just as I thought, Kurumi's mood level is going up. So she's the exact same type as Shido huh?] Kotori's teasing voice came through the earpiece.

"Please, stop reminding me of my dark history" Shido sweated and whispered into the microphone.

"Ohoho, my sworn ally, Shido! It has been two entire eras since we last parted ways. What are you buying today? An item to cast your ultimate skill? A weapon? Or perhaps you want to look at our newly arrived black magic incantations?"

The one speaking was a suspicious figure covered head to toe in a black cloak. However, Shido knew perfectly well that this guy was the shop manager. He was the kind of person who would discuss crazy fantasy settings with elementary and middle schoolers, making them believe it completely and burdening them with the sin known as a dark history.

"Sorry, I've already graduated from my dark history." Shido waved his hand. If possible, he really didn't want to see this guy.

"What? Oh, my ally, are you abandoning me too? Without your 'Secret Art: Roaring Flash Blast Wave, how are we supposed to face the darkness of this city!" The manager said, looking completely heartbroken.

"Stop it! Forget about that Secret Art! Forget it!"

As it turned out, hearing the words "Roaring Flash Blast Wave" coming out of someone else's mouth dealt far more damage than Shido had imagined.

"Oh my, what an amazing Secret Art. As expected of Shido-san."

"Oho, to understand the power of this Secret Art... could it be that you, young lady, are also a comrade who faces the darkness alongside my friend Shido?"

"Exactly... The moment I laid eyes on Shido-san, my sealed eye began to ache. Ahh, how wonderful, how powerful. This is my first time seeing someone with such immense spiritual power. I want to make him mine... I want him to become one with me."

Kurumi held her hands to her chest, excitedly saying incredibly embarrassing things.

"Ku... Kurumi..."

Hearing the phrase "become one with me", Shido blushed and stepped forward to stop her.

"Magnificent! Truly magnificent! That dream, that courage... you truly are a worthy comrade to my friend Shido. However..."

But it was too late. Kurumi and the manager were already completely immersed in their fantasy setting.

"However?"

"That eyepatch... is not enough to seal away that overwhelmingly powerful force. Come! Deep inside this Magitech Research Lab lies an eyepatch engraved with the crest of the Inverted Cross. If you are truly a comrade of my friend Shido, you will definitely be able to find it!"

"Oh my, my. For Shido-san's sake, I will definitely find it."

As a result, Kurumi was tricked into searching for some Inverted Cross eyepatch. Of course, taking it home would still cost money.

[Huh?]

Shido watched as Kurumi walked past shelves filled with bizarre items. Just as she reached a heavily shadowed corner, in a split second, a pale white arm reached out and pulled Kurumi straight into the shadows.

"Kotori, what was that just now?"

[Hmm? What was what?]

"Kurumi! Kurumi!"

[Kurumi? Ugh... that's a camera blind spot. Did something happen to Kurumi?]

"Ah... no, it's nothing..."

While talking to Kotori, Shido saw Kurumi walk out from the other side of the shelf, making it seem like everything just now was just an illusion.

"Hmm? You found it that quickly?" the manager asked in surprise.

"I am very sorry, but I do not need something like that. Really, Shido-san. This is a rare date, why did you bring me to a place like this?"

For some reason, the Kurumi who walked out from behind the shelves spoke in a completely uncharacteristic manner.

"Huh? Didn't you really like this kind of shop, Kurumi?"

"I do not like it at all."

"But earlier you were saying things like 'This is wonderful'..."

"I do not like it at all."

"But..."

"I. Do. Not. Like. It. At. All."(TL:Lmaooooooooooooo, real Kurumi is here XDDDD)

The smiling girl emphasized every single word with a terrifying pressure.

[Shido, Kurumi's mood level is dropping. Looks like we made a mistake. Hurry up and get out of there.]

"I... I understand. Let's go, Kurumi."

Shido grabbed Kurumi's hand and left the black magic shop.

"By the way, where is your eyepatch?"

On the way, Shido noticed that Kurumi's eyepatch was gone. Instead, she was using her long bangs to cover her left eye.

"Please do not mind that."

"Did you lose it?"

"Please do not mind that."

"But..."

"Please. Do. Not. Mind. That."(TL:kewkkkkkk)

Ever since walking out from behind those shelves, Kurumi seemed to be in a very bad mood.

[Shido, time's up. You have to go meet Mikoto now.] Kotori's voice came through the earpiece.

"Ouch, ouch, ouch, ouch—!!!" Shido grabbed his stomach, acting like he was in pain.

"Oh my, are you alright, Shido-san?"

"Sorry, I need to go to the restroom!" Shido clutched his stomach, told Kurumi, and then dashed toward the restroom.

[Kurumi... it feels like she completely changed into a different person...] Shido thought as he ran.

In front of the fountain at the Tengu Station plaza, a young girl wearing a dark blue yukata stood quietly, holding a small handbag. She looked as beautiful as a painting, causing the passing pedestrians to constantly turn their heads to look at her.

"Sorry to keep you waiting, Yakumo-senpai."

"Not at all, I just got here too."

Mikoto smiled and shook her head. Since Shido had arrived five minutes early, she hadn't waited long at all.

"Well then, let's go."

[Wait, Shido! A girl wore a yukata just for you. If you don't compliment her properly, you're a complete failure as a man, you know!]

"Ah... umm, that yukata... it really looks good on you, Senpai." Hearing Kotori's voice, Shido scratched his cheek and said.

"Thank you. But... Kotori told you to say that, didn't she?"

Looking at Shido's "Oh right, I just remembered" expression, Mikoto blinked and giggled.

"Ahaha..."

He didn't expect to be found out instantly. Shido couldn't help but smile wryly.

Even though Ratatoskr normally turned off all surveillance when the two were alone, today's date was an exception. Of course, Mikoto had agreed to it under the excuse of wanting to test the Fraxinus's AI.

As for the real reason, it was simple: if Shido tried to go on a date with Mikoto completely alone right now, the chances of his triple-date being exposed were way too high.

[Yakumo-senpai is way too observant!]

To instantly notice Kotori's instructions like that... Even with Ratatoskr's support, Shido felt incredibly nervous. Could he really keep this triple date a secret from Mikoto?
